Adam Curling enrolled in college at Johnson & Wales University in Charleston, South
Carolina, obtaining an Associate Degree in Culinary Arts as well as a Bachelor Degree
in Restaurant Management that would provide the backbone to his career.
During his time in Charleston, South Carolina, Adam worked in various high profile
establishments such as The Planters Inn Peninsula Grill and The Woodland's Inn at
private wine dinners. Adam also took a position at a wine shop called Uncork. He
then went to Europe to travel and study for a portion of a year. With him he took
a journal and a few wine books to navigate the regions and its producers. After
a few weeks of travel he ended up in Germany, where he enrolled in the Deutchewein
und Sommelier Schule. Here the journey would begin its structural rounding, learning
from mentor lecturers such as Marcus del Monego M.S., M.W, and Jurgen von der Mark
M.W.
Returning to the United States, he entered back into Charleston at FIG Restaurant
as a Captain / Sommelier for a year until landing the prestigious role as the Cellar
Master at The Inn at Little Washington, in Virginia. Alongside the Inn's Wine Director,
Scott Calvert, Adam and Scott were awarded the Wine Spectator Grand Award and were
a very successful team for a year when Adam stepped into the role as Wine Director,
upon the exiting of Mr. Calvert, The Inn was granted its youngest Wine Director.
In his second year at the Inn, Adam maintained the prestigious Wine Spectator Grand
Award while acquiring the tools necessary in becoming an accomplished Sommelier.
In the two years spent at The Inn, Adam passed his first two levels of the Master
Sommelier certifications. After these accomplishments were achieved, he moved to
Washington, D.C. to embark on a new role as a Consulting Sommelier with KOMI restaurant,
during which he was awarded 150 words in the DC Express. Moving on he would find
his home as Sommelier with Mark Slater at Michel Richard Citronelle, which just
recently received James Beard Foundation™ Best Chef US, and Best Wine Service 2007.
In June 2007, Adam won the Mid-Atlantic Title at the Chaine de Rotisseurs Jeaune
Sommelier Competition. Coming July he will be the proud father of a baby boy, Preston-Walker.
Adam P. Curling, 24, recently also completed his Advanced Sommelier exam in August
