Storing your wine in one of our Vintrust cellars is the best way to minimize movement
and temperature variation and optimize the provenance, value and ultimate experience
of your wine. Cellarage also allows you to consolidate orders over time for more
cost-effective shipping. For this reason Vintrust offers free 90-day cellarage for
all of your wine purchases. When you select Vintrust cellarage at checkout, an account
is automatically created for you, and your wine is imaged and added to your account
so you can view and manage it online.
However, we recognize that you may wish to take delivery of the wine for drinking,
gifting or storage in your home cellar, and thus we offer a number of other options
for taking delivery of your wine.
This shipping policy applies to all domestic shipments of wine via common carrier.
This does not apply to international shipments, bulk shipments via temperature-controlled
trucks, local deliveries by temperature-controlled Vintrust truck, or pickups from
a Vintrust facility.
Vintrust's shipping policy is designed to take every reasonable measure to preserve
the integrity and value of your wine during transit. However, you may at any time
request to override the Vintrust policy at your own risk.
Vintrust's Shipping Policy is as follows:
- Physical Address: Vintrust requires a physical address
for shipping. PO Boxes are not acceptable. A business address is highly recommended
for ease of receipt.
- Legal Age Recipient: The common carriers used by Vintrust
require an adult of legal age (21 or over) with identification to be present to
receive and sign for your wine.
- Time to Ship: Vintrust's goal is to ship your wine within
3 to 5 business days of your order, often faster for in-stock wine ordered on one
of our Shipping Days (see below). Orders for overnight delivery of in-stock wine
are generally shipped the same day if we receive your order before 12 noon Pacific
time.
- Shipping Days: Vintrust releases ground and 3-day air
shipments on Mondays and Tuesdays only. 2-day air shipments may be released as late
as Wednesday to locations where the carrier has a reliable track record of timely
delivery. Overnight shipments may be released on Thursday for Friday delivery. You
may also instruct Vintrust to ship your wine on Friday for Saturday delivery (additional
charges will apply).
- Weather Check Prior to Release of Shipment: Each day
before shipping your wine, Vintrust reviews the temperature forecast for our warehouse
location, the delivery route and the destination address. If the temperature is
expected to be below 75 and above 28 degrees Fahrenheit in all of those locations
for the expected time in transit, Vintrust will release your shipment to the carrier.
- Weather Hold: Shipments that do not pass the Weather
Check will be placed on Weather Hold for a period of up to 3 months. Weather Holds
are not subject to storage fees.
- Release from Weather Hold: As soon as delivery route
temperatures allow, your shipment will be released.
- Transfer to Vintrust Cellar: At any time before your
wine leaves our facility, you may request that your wine be transferred from Weather
Hold to your Vintrust cellarage account. Your wine will be photographed, barcoded
and added to your account where you can view and manage it. You will not be billed
for any freight charges until you request delivery from cellarage. If your wine
has been in Weather Hold for less than 90 days, you will not billed cellarage fees
for the remainder of the 90-day free cellarage period. If your wine has been in
Weather Hold for 90 days or more, billing for cellarage will start only after wine
has been transferred to cellarage.
- Overnight Shipments: Overnight air shipments for morning
delivery are not subject to Weather Holds and will be shipped the same day they
are ordered for all orders placed before 12 noon Pacific time on a Shipping Day,
and the next Shipping Day for all other overnight morning orders. Overnight shipments
for afternoon delivery (standard overnight) are subject to Weather Holds.
- Shipping Notification: As soon as your shipment has
been released to a carrier or to a Vintrust cellar, you will receive an automatic
e-mail containing the shipping method and tracking number, if applicable.
Five key things you can do to minimize exposure of your wine to uncontrolled conditions:
- Select overnight air shipping with guaranteed morning delivery
- Ship to a business address where there is always someone available to receive your
wine
- Make sure a receiver of legal age will be present on the expected delivery date
- Make alternate arrangements directly with the carrier if no one will be available
to receive your wine at the ship-to address
- Store your wine at a Vintrust cellar for a low monthly fee until you are ready to
drink, gift or sell your wine
