Scott was born in Australia, and has, like many of his countrymen, extensively traveled. The effects of these travels have always remained; a love for the food and wine of the world. On one of these pilgrimages he met and later married Beth von Benz and now happily resides in New York City where he has remained for over fifteen years.
Now partnered with Beth in a consulting company, MvB Consulting, Scott has worked in the restaurant industry for over twenty years. Always a lover of wine, he made the change from management twelve years ago and hasn’t looked back! Scott has worked as a sommelier at; Michael Jordan’s The Steak-House, nestled on the balcony in the beautifully restored Grand Central Station, at La Caravelle one of the first and finest traditional French restaurants in New York, at The Plaza Hotel as chef du sommelier, overseeing a 25 million dollar beverage operation, and at wd~50, teaming with innovative chef Wylie Dufresne. He now oversees operations at Telepan in New York City.
Travel remains a passion and Scott visits wine-producing locations at every opportunity. Most recently, a three week drive from Jerez to Rias Biaxas, which was quite the experience. He has served for many years as a guest taster for the Wine Spectator’s Wine Experience in New York. He has contributed to such publications as Food & Wine, Wine & Spirits, Santé Magazine, Business Traveller, Australian Gourmet Traveller and the New York Times. He sits on the tasting panel for the New York Times, and Sante Magazine. He has judged for the World Sommelier Competition and the Hudson Valley Wine Association. He teaches classes for the American Sommelier Association and at the I.C.E.
