Jared Heber is currently the wine director for Mozza, the Mario Batali / Joe Bastianich / Nancy Silverton partnership in Los Angeles. His passion for Italian wine led him to this opportunity. "I love the whole world of wine, but right now, my guests and I are going to explore the best of Italy."
Jared discovered wine while attending the University of Washington and working in Seattle restaurants. He took a position at the wine shop Seattle Cellars, Ltd to learn more. After completing school and several years at the wine shop, Jared went to work for the Grand Award winning Canlis Restaurant as assistant wine director. Wine director and Master Sommelier Shayn Bjornholm was an ideal mentor during this time. Inspired to also pursue certification through the Court of Master Sommeliers, Jared passed the Advanced course in the spring of 2005, making him a master sommelier candidate.
In 2005 he also competed in the Chaine des Rotisseurs National Young Sommelier Competition, placing third. Through his work at Canlis and this national competition, he was also recognized that year by his peers as one of the best new sommeliers by Wine & Spirits Magazine in their 3rd annual sommelier poll. He then moved to the Napa Valley to work for the Thomas Keller Restaurant group, as a sommelier at The French Laundry and as lead sommelier at Bouchon Bistro.
It was while working at The French Laundry that he was introduced to Vintrust's nonpareil services and asked to join its team. "The number one thing I have learned in my career is that wine is about service, not ego."
