Gillian,
Your review brought back great memories of a 1976 Vendange Tardive Gewurztraminer by Trimbach. While attending the Monterey Wine Festival and sitting for the MS certificate course in March of 1989, one of the other budding Sommeliers insisted we HAD to go to The Sardine Factory for nothing else but to drink this wine! It was Glorious! Intensly flavored yet subtle in its delivery. I remember it still to this day. It went with a myriad of appetizers on the table. At 14 years old it was still in its youth with juicy acidity and a mile long finish of tropical fruit, citrus, lychee and mandarine.
Little did I know that I was soon to become the Wine Director at that famous place for the next 13 years and I had fun selling the remaining 3 bottles to deserving clients.
Gewurztraminer is such a fantastic wine to have with the foods we love today. I hope it continues to grow in popularity. Posted by: Andrea Fulton-Higgins at July 27, 2005 05:21 PM
